Any letter listed on the end of/or after the part number like A, B, C, or D is just a mfg revision level that will not affect the antenna needed.
UHF NOTE:
The public safety speaker mics with model numbers ending in
5072,
5073, and 5074
are designed by Motorola for use ONLY in the UHF band 450-512 MHz.  For use on Vhf and any other UHF frequency the PSM internal circuitry will need to be modified to remove the frequency limitations.
The Motorola PSM’s listed above work with the following Motorola portable radios;
ASTRO, JEDI, HT1000, JT1000, MT1500, MT2000, MTS2000, MTX-LS, PR1500, VISAR, XTS1500, XTS2500, XTS3000, XTS3500, and XTS5000 portables.
Yes, it is a known fact that the known-brand
PSM
straight connecting cord design uses a small diameter internal RF coax cable which introduces a signal reduction to all TX and RX signals between the
PSM
and the portable radio.  With our tuned
M36
antenna you can cancel all of the negative effects from the small coax cable and really improve your communications performance as compared to any other competitive antenna available.
Your antenna will have a final VSWR of 1.5:1 or less across the advertised frequency range variation choice for
TRUE high performance

All of the PSM models listed above use a dummy/fake Look-A-Like SMA male jack with the center pin wired to the jack outer threaded section.
This can be verified when the PSM is disconnected from the portable radio by checking the continuity between the center pin and the outer jack threads using an OHM meter.
Transmit RF output cannot be metered or measured at this fake jack.
Our special
M36
PSM antenna with a threaded stud and center hole is designed to have maximum communications performance with this fake SMA jack.
Our testing is performed on a public safety speaker microphone located on the user’s shoulder/shirt epaulet.
Every antenna is tested and must pass all specs to be released for sale.

Our tuned Vhf antennas will vary in height between 3.40 inches and 4.25 inches tall depending on the frequency range.

Our tuned UHF antennas will vary in height between 1.9 inches and 2.4 inches tall depending on the frequency range.

Our tuned 700/800 antennas will vary in height between 2.4 inches and 2.8 inches tall depending on the frequency range.

Our tuned 800 antennas will vary in height between 2.0 inches and 2.3 inches tall depending on the frequency range.

All antenna length measurements are made from the bottom of the weather skirt to the top cap of the antenna.
The lower frequency ranges will always have the longer antenna lengths.
The lower frequency antennas will have the longer antenna heights.
The higher tuned frequency antenna will have the shorter antenna heights.
The antenna covering is made of black flexible PVC and has a bottom skirt to weather protect the RF connection on the radio housing. The bottom of the female SMA Motorola type connector is color coded with a stripe which identifies the tuned frequency range.
We silver solder all reworked internal antenna connections for the best RF signal transfer.
The retuning of the known-brand helical antenna achieves a minimum signal gain of up to
+3 dB
that will effectively double your transmit and receive signal power due to the very low VSWR and excellent 50 ohm impedance match as compared to any untuned antenna.
Our custom retuning also allows for a much smaller antenna height without any loss of performance by eliminating all of the unused/wasted space inside the OEM antenna covering.

Our antenna meets all of the following technical criteria;

Must be a known-brand antenna and not a cheap junk or aftermarket look-a-like copy from China.
·
Be as short as physically possible for a low profile with great communications range.
·
Must be professional looking on the Public Safety Microphone.
·
Exhibit an excellent resonance with a very low VSWR of 1.5:1 or less over the whole frequency range.
·
Uses a special threaded stud connector with a center hole to properly fit the public safety speaker microphones for all of the specific models listed above.
·
Must maintain all specifications over the temperature range of -10 to +120 degrees Fahrenheit.
It is a fact that the most important part of any radio communications is the antenna system.
The antenna is the device on a radio that converts RF power into radio waves during transmit and radio waves into RF power on receive.
All transmitted and received signals must pass through the antenna system for any radio to work.
A respected radio engineer once said, “If you had 100 dollars, invest 99 dollars in the antenna system and 1 dollar in the radio and you will always have great communications”.
After many years of our own experience we have found that this statement to be true especially for today’s FM narrowband radio communications. We have witnessed portable radios worth thousands of dollars using cheap OEM antennas get beat out performance wise by users with
radios
one forth the cost using our fine tuned antennas.
VSWR is the efficiency measurement ratio of RF power that is being converted into radio waves by the antenna system as compared to the RF power that is not converted and reflected back into the radio as wasted energy.
A VSWR of 1.5:1 has been and still is the customary maximum upper limit used in professional land mobile radio communications to determine a good efficient transfer of RF power.
Any VSWR above 1.6:1 is poor and any VSWR above 2:1 is definitely BAD for the performance and the long term health of the radio RF power output amplifier.
Sadly many companies that manufacture products in China now use a VSWR of 2:1 as their good reference point to market their poor quality products and make them appear to be way better than what they actually are.
FYI,
a tuned antenna is designed to operate only in the advertised frequency range.  A tuned Vhf antenna is NOT designed to operate in the UHF or 700/800/900 MHz radio bands.  A tuned UHF antenna will not operate in the Vhf, 700, 800, or 900 bands.
A tuned 800 only band antenna will not operate in the Vhf, UHF, 700, or 900 bands.
A tuned 700-800 band antenna will not operate in the Vhf, UHF, or 900 bands.
A tuned 900 band antenna will not operate in the Vhf, UHF, 700, or 800 bands.
Any antenna forced to operate outside of the tuned frequency range will definitely not work properly if at all, and will eventually cause expensive internal damage to the portable radio power output amplifier.  So do not purchase our tuned antennas and then complain that it does not work with extremely poor range outside of the designed frequency range.  Just because the antenna fits and looks good does not mean it will work properly.
